Relationship Enhancement – Expressing Love

You have probably seen the Walt Disney World commercial where someone opens a greeting card and balloons and fireworks come shooting out. Do you know the same thing happens when you send a greeting card expressing your love to someone?

Imagine this. You mom goes to the mailbox as she does every day. She starts looking through the stack of mail…bill, ad, ad, bill, ad. But wait, what’s this? It looks like a greeting card and the return address is from you, her son r daughter. She quickly drops all the other mail on the counter and tears open the envelope. She pulls out a beautiful card with a picture of you and her on the front that was taken when you visited two weeks ago. The caption reads, “The best mom in the whole world.” Tears well up in her eyes. She opens the card and starts reading your message of love, and part of your spirit touches her heart. Tears stream down her face as she reads how much you love her and enjoyed being with her. She reads the card several times. Then she sets it up on the kitchen counter so that she can see the picture every time she walks in the room, and can read the message over and over again.

Or imagine this. You go to the mailbox and see that the greeting card you sent to your 10-year-old son has arrived. He hasn’t come home from school yet, so you put the envelope next to his video game, where you know he will see it. When he arrives home he’s excited that he got mail-he almost never gets something in the mail. He doesn’t look at the return address-he’s a kid. He rips the envelope open and pulls out a greeting card with a picture on the front of him making a great play at his Little League game. The caption reads, “You’re Number One.” Inside the card he reads the message of how proud you are of him. He reads your words of praise and encouragement and a big smile covers his face. He gives you a hug and runs to put the card on the dresser so he can read it again and again. Fast forward 20 years, and one day he shows you that he still has that card and that he still takes it out and reads it once in a while.

A heartfelt greeting card has the power to deliver your message of love like nothing else can. It’s like sending a hug in the mail that the person can experience over and over whenever they read the card. Who popped into your head as you were reading this? Send them a card right now.
